You can apply for a Matric Certificate replacement at either the Department of Basic Education or Provincial Education Department (PED) if you have lost or damaged your original certificate.

You must return any damaged certificates to the Department of Basic Education or Provincial Education Department (PED) if the certificate has been damaged. The prescribed fee must also be paid. This can usually be done by post at the Post Office, cash at DBE / PED Office or by cheque.

Off Line Matric Certificate replacement Procedures

Visit the nearest DBE/ PED offices with the following documents:

  • An affidavit stating what happened to your certificate (i.e. if it is lost or damaged).
  • The original national/ senior certificate (if it is damaged). This is not applicable if it is lost.
  • Your original identity document (ID) and a certified copy.

  • Examination year (when you obtained the qualification)
  • School name and
  • Surname (as used in the original document issued)

  • Replacement certificate: R141.00
  • Statement of results: additional R52.00.
  • These fees are valid from 01 April 2021 until 31 March 2022.
