The 2021 matric class had demonstrated remarkable resilience when faced with the changes in the learning environment. These are the top performers.

Despite the difficulties faced by the 2021 matric class, there were still some students who excelled. These are the top academic achievers.

The pass rate of the matric class who took the Independent Examinations Board National Senior Certificate exams in 2021 was 98.39%. This was slightly higher than the 2020 pass rate of 98.06%.

Anne Oberholzer, chief executive of the IEB, stated that the 2021 matric class showed “tremendous resilience”.

Oberholzer stated that the class of 2021 had to dig deeply mentally and emotionally in order to overcome the enormous challenges posed by a drastically changed learning and teaching environment over the past two years.

She added that 2021’s matric pupils “experienced a disruptive change of an unprecedented nature within a relatively short space of time”. “They truly deserve the accolades they receive.”

SAHETI School

Jade Harrison was one of SAHETI’s most outstanding pupils. With an average score of 88.3%, she received 10 distinctions.

Ariane Angelopulo was SAHETI’s top-ranked candidate and received nine distinctions, while also attaining the highest average (95.5%).

The IEB named her an Outstanding Achiever, placing her among the top 5% nationally in six or more subjects.
