The Nation Building Army was officially established on July 10, 1963, 51 years ago, following the implementation of the Cabinet Meeting Resolution. The late Commander-in-Chief and President of Tanganyika, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, presided over the gathering on April 19, 1963.
The recommendations of the General Assembly of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU Youth League), which was held at a conference in the Tabora region in 1958 and presented by Mr. Julius Nyerere, the organization’s then-General Secretary, who has since passed away, served as the inspiration for the establishment of JKT.
Since its establishment, the Nation Building Force (JKT) has been the source of young people being recruited by the country’s Defense and Security Forces such as JWTZ, Police, Prisons, National Security and private security institutions. So the Nation Building Army is taking on young volunteers and in accordance with the law. To prepare young people for a responsible society and a work ethic.
What Are The Qualifications And Requirements for JKT?
To be accepted into JKT training there some qualification and requirements you need to met. Below are general requirements for anyone to be accepted into Nation Building Army (JKT)

- Be a citizen of Tanzania
- Must be between the ages of 18-23
- Should have completed standard Seven and continue
- He must not be married and have no dependents
- Be willing to follow all the military rules that will be on him while in the military (escape, theft, drunkenness, smoking marijuana, drugs and pregnancy etc.) The military is a serious offense and you will be prosecuted and terminated by JKT
- Be ready to return home after concluding his contract with the Nation Building Army

Jinsi Ya Kujiunga Na JKT | Procedure for Joining JKT
Every year JKT enrolls young volunteers from all regions of the country. The procedure used is for JKT to write a letter to the regional heads and describe the vacancies that have been allocated to the region.
After the Region received a letter from the Head of JKT and the number of vacancies for young people scheduled to join. The province allocates those posts according to their districts. Districts are also required to spread out into divisions, counties, and villages. District officials often post announcements of these openings on their bulletin board.
JKT is advertising opportunities to join the military through state and private media with the aim of accelerating the report. citizens, especially young people. Preliminary interviews are conducted within the framework of the defense and security committees of the district to which the young men belong, which are subsequently held in the district, to determine the number of young people in the entire district.
When the exercise in the regions is completed, the JKT sends teams of officers and soldiers from JKT headquarters to screen the youths interviewed in all regions of mainland Tanzania. Young people are screened for their health and transferred to the JKT forces.
