The pair were announced in the final three-man shortlist for the prestigious accolade after both having successful seasons.
Both Mane and Salah helped propel Liverpool to success, combining for 54 goals during a spectacular season in which the Reds with Jurgen Klopp won two trophies. On the international stage, Mane has defeated Salah twice in major competitions – with Mane emerging as the victor on both occasions with Senegal.

Sadio Mane Wins 2022 African Player Of The Year | Caf Awards
Senegalese international, Sadio Mané has been crowned Africa’s Footballer of the Year for a second time. He joins El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure and Mohamed Salah as Africa’s four other players who have won this prestigious accolade twice since 1992 when CAF took over its administration.
Having achieved recognition for being the best player on the continent, he only needs two more triumphs before achieving what Eto’o and Toure – who each won the prize four times. Prior to his €41 million (and £35m/$43m) move to Bayern Munich, Sadio Mane experienced a successful career with Liverpool where he helped them win FA Cup and Carabao Cup while also playing an instrumental role in their close second place finish at the Uefa Champions League.
