The O Level is a subject-based qualification conferred as part of the General Certificate of Education. In Tanzania O level involves four classes known as Form One, Form Two, Form Three and Form Form. In each year student are tested in accordance to NECTA and Schools guidelines. For Form two and four all students undergo NECTA examination in which will decide whether the student will go forward to next class or not.
All students who made it to Final O Level Class (Form Four) will be tested with The National Examinations Council Of Tanzania (NECTA) examination and awarded Certificate of Secondary Education Examination(CSEE) according to their performance.
Which Subjects/Courses Are Included In O Level
According to NECTA the core and compulsory subjects that a candidate is registered to sit for O level are: Civics, History, Geography, Kiswahili, English Language, Biology and Basic Mathematics.
In addition To Core subjects O level student may also take additional two subjects chosen from
- Natural science subjects which are Physics and Chemistry
- Business subjects which are Commerce and Book Keeping
- Home economic subjects which are Food and Nutrition and Textile and Dress Making
- Technical subjects which are Building Construction, Architectural Draughting, Surveying, Carpentry and Joinery, Brickwork and Masonry, Painting and Sign Writing, Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Electrical Engineering Science, Radio and Television Servicing, Electrical Draughting, Refrigeration and air conditioning, Plant and Equipment Maintenance, Workshop Technology, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Fitting and Turning, Auto Electric, Mechanical Draughting and Foundry and Blacksmith
- Or one optional subject among the following: Bible Knowledge, Elimu ya Dini ya Kiislamu, Fine Art, Music, Physical Education,French Language, Literature in English, Arabic Language, Agricultural Science, Information and Computer Studies and Additional Mathematics.
