The Department of Basic Education (DBE), has published the matric results of the 2021 cohort. This group achieved a pass rate of 76%.

This is an increase in 0.2 percentage points over the 2020 matric pass rate of 76.2%. A total of 256,031 students received a Bachelor’s Degree pass and, with it, could be admitted to one the country’s universities.

Motshekga reported that 36.4% achieved a bachelor’s degree (2020: 36.4%), while 25.2% earned a diploma (2020; 26%) and 14.8% obtained a higher certificate (2020, 13.7%).

The total number of candidates who took the 2021 NSC exam was 897,163, an increase of 23.6% over 2020. This number includes 733,198 full time students, which is the largest full-time student cohort in the past few years. The examination was taken by 163,967 candidates who were part-time.

I was unsuccessful, what do I do now?

If you fail your Matric Results 2021 You can consider rewriting the test. This is known as a supplemental exam.

Only candidates who have registered and written the November 2021 NSC examination may apply to write a supplementary examination.

Learners may register to write the examination if:

  • they failed to meet the requirements in the November examination;
  • they passed but seek to improve their performance; or
  • they were absent from the writing of one or more question papers due to ill-health or other unforeseen circumstances.
