Tanzania’s government will conduct a Population and Housing Census by August 2022. The Ministry of Finance and Planning, in collaboration with the National Bureau of Statistics, is beginning to plan the census. The Population and Housing Census is a national exercise conducted every 10 years. The last census conducted was in 2012. That makes this upcoming one our sixth since Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964-after 1967, 1978, 1988 or 2002 respectively
Hon. Anne Makinda, Commissioner of the 2022 Population and Housing Census has urged Religious and Traditional leaders to provide education on the importance of this census so that all citizens can participate fully in it.
Speaking at the Twariqatul religious institution’s conference, the Census Commissioner said that religious and traditional leaders have a key role to play in ensuring that Tanzanian citizens are aware of and engaged with the 2022 Population Housing Census. She said providing good social services for citizens is based on accurate statistics, which relies on data from various censuses including this one-the population housing census
