JTC teacher registration is a program in which all teachers are registered in the public education system and teachers in private education institutions. It includes an assessment of: the teacher’s qualifications and character to determine his suitability for the education of the nation’s youth. Each teacher is required to complete a registration application before entering the education system.

The online registration process will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. The online registration process requires 3 steps, which covers submitting online forms for personal information (user profile), professional information and qualifications.
To complete the JTC Teacher online registration, you will need to submit the documents listed below. After this online registration process, originals/certified copies of these documents must be submitted for verification to your regional office or the Jamaica Board of Education.
- Certified copy of birth certificate
- Certified copies of qualification/academic qualifications
- Two written character references
- Certified copies of TRN & NIS cards
- Passport Size Photo
- Police Record (Early Childhood Teachers)
- Food Handlers Permit (Early Childhood Teachers)

The Jamaica Teaching Council (JTC) was established as a part of the education transformation strategy to improve the quality and coverage of education nationwide. Its fundamental purpose is to professionalize the teaching profession. The Council advocates for the teaching profession, and its ultimate goal is for the teaching to become the profession of choice.
The establishment of JTC is a response to the Task Force on Educational Reform Report (2004) outlining the vital role of teachers in increasing the achievement levels of learners. Specifically, the report pointed to the need for greater accountability of educational personnel and strategies that will ensure a high quality, high performing teaching profession. The Report also took note of the existing constraints of the teaching profession, in the administrative and management structure of the education system.
