About University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG)
The University of Papua New Guinea is a university in Port Moresby. It is the capital of Papua New Guinea. It was established in 1965 by an Australian ordinance. This was in response to the Currie Commission, which inquired into higher education in Papua New Guinea. No. 1883, University of Papua New Guinea Act. 1883 bill, which repeals the old Ordinance, was passed by National Parliament in August 1983.
To foster inter-school and inter-disciplinary relationships, the university has changed from being a departmental structure to one that is school-oriented. The Michael Somare Library is the university’s library, named after Sir Michael Somare, the country’s first Prime Minster.
