The Matriculation Examination is the final exam held at secondary schools. The long-awaited National Senior Certificate results 2021 is the one among the most important examination results for all South African children. This will determine whether the child is successful or not. Although it is a common misconception, the Matriculation Results are crucial for college admission which make very important for any child education career.

The Department of Basic Education (DBE), has published the matric results of the 2021 cohort. This group achieved a pass rate of 76%.

This is an increase in matric pass rates of 0.2 percentage points over 2020 (76.2%). A total of 256,031 students received a Bachelor’s Degree pass and, with it, could be admitted to one the country’s universities.

Motshekga reported that 36.4% achieved a bachelor’s degree (2020: 36.4%), while 25.2% earned a diploma (2020; 26%) and 14.8% obtained a higher certificate (2020, 13.7%).

The total number of candidates who took the 2021 NSC exam was 897,163, an increase of 23.6% over 2020. This number includes 733,198 full time students, which is the largest full-time student cohort in the past few years. The examination was taken by 163,967 candidates who were part-time.

Angie Motshekga, Basic Education minister, presented the results on Thursday (20 Jan). She stated that the 2021 class was the most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic after it had endured two years’ worth of disruptions and restrictions.

Your results will be available on the Department of Basic Education’s website if you attended a public high school or government high school. To log in, you will need to enter the following:

Your school will give you your results one day after the announcement of initial results. This is your individual statement of results for each subject. It’s not an official matric certification. Your printed official matric certificate will be available for you to pick up a few months later. The exact dates will be provided by your school.

  • Step 1: Open a new SMS message on your phone
  • Step 2: Fill in your ID Number AND Exam Number as the message
  • Step 3: Both numbers must have 13 digits to be accepted

  • Step 5: Note that the SMS will cost R3,00 (Free SMS does not apply)
  • Step 6: Your exam number and ID number will be checked – if you send incorrect numbers it won’t work
  • Step 7: You will get your results once they are made available on 23 February 2021

I was unsuccessful, what do I do now?

If you fail your Matric Results 2021 You can consider rewriting the test. This is known as a supplemental exam.

Only candidates who have registered and written the November 2021 NSC examination may apply to write a supplementary examination.

Learners may register to write the examination if:

  • they failed to meet the requirements in the November examination;
  • they passed but seek to improve their performance; or
  • they were absent from the writing of one or more question papers due to ill-health or other unforeseen circumstances.

It is the goal of every grade 12 graduate to do well in these exams, and make their families proud. The Matric Exam is important because it helps students get to higher education and work. Many students who have taken these exams are shaking as they await the announcement of their results.

Now you have checked your results and somehow you may not be happy with your matriculation results. You have until March 26, 2022 to request a re-mark, recheck, or see your exam papers.

You will need to fill out an application form for re-examination and correction. These forms can be found at your school or district office. These forms can also be found at examination centers where students have written.
